The origin of the present congregation goes back to the 1880s. An elder of North Morningside Parish Church (these days Morningside United Church) had a vision. He wanted to reach out to the people of the hamlet of Stenhouse with the good news of Jesus Christ. There was no church in the area and most of the people living there had no church contact.
With pioneering instinct and hard work a congregation was established, meeting first in the mill until The Edgar Hall was built in 1912, the current sanctuary was added in 1936.

The area in which the current building sits is no longer a hamlet!
In fact within the last 10 years there has been dramatic change to the face of the parish. The ASDA superstore sits on the site of an abattoir and cattle market.
Contemporary styled new housing and office space has sprung up as well as the Corn Exchange being redeveloped. More new building is planned and a large site is cleared for new housing (credit crunch dependent?) and a major skate-park is planned for Saughton Park.

The church still exists with the same goal - to bring the good news of Jesus Christ to those living in the area. At the moment we are in the early stages of re-evaluating how best to do this. If we are honest it seems quite a daunting task as many people seem to have little time for the church's message. It seems to be a tall order for an aging group who are small in number.
We remain hopeful of the future because the power of the gospel of Jesus Christ is not in those who seek to proclaim it but in the God of whom it speaks.

We have recently begun a gathering for prayer and we are seeking God's guidance as we step into the future. At present we invite anyone who is interested in finding out more about Christianity to come along to one of our Sunday services. In these services we seek to explain, in a relevant manner, the love of God as it is revealed in Christ.
We hope more and more to be a community who worship God, care for each other and witness to Christ in the parish.
